Social Media has burst onto the scene in the past few years and has been adopted by the main stream. Social Media is any platform that allows a two way communication between you and your customers. The following steps are what I have found to be the best approach to Social Media:

01Define Your Goals from Social Media – Decide what you want, is social media going to be a sales channel, is it going to offer support?

02Research Your Audience – Idenitfy the people who you would like to communicate with on social media. Note their characteristics and their interests.

03Choose Your Core Topics of Expertise – These are the topics you are going to create content around to help solve/answer queries your target market might have on the topic. This is adding value.

04Choose Your Social Media Platforms – You dont need to be on every social media platform. Choose the platforms that suit your goals, if your business is B2B focused, it makes sense to be on LinkedIn, if your B2C focused, it might not be as much of a concern.

05Encourage Social Media Engagement – Encourage your existing customers/visitors from other channels who have social media profiles to engage with you on their preferred social platform.

06Plan Your Social Media Usage – Make strategic use of your time. Define the optimum time to reach your target audience, develop an editorial calendar and stick to it.

07Track Your Results – Review your KPI’s and how your results fit in with your overall goals and optimise your strategy.
